One of the schools I've applied to has asked verification of the information my CSS Profile has given to them as to my financial needs. I've submitted and they've received all of the necessary documents they requested. However, it says they need my FAFSA for 2009-2010..I thought that FAFSA automatically sent an electronic copy to the schools I listed on my FAFSA, so not sure why they are asking for it again. I faxed the school my Student Aid Report (SAR) which is what I thought they meant when they listed my FAFSA as something I needed to submit...but apparently even after having faxed the SAR, they still say I need to submit my FAFSA...does that mean they actually want the pages of my application before it was processed that I printed out after I signed it and confirmed with my electronic signature?

So basically my question is what do they want me to give them if not the SAR in terms of submitting my FAFSA?

Thanks. :)

are you sure you did the fafsa for 2009-2010 and not for 2008-2009

did you put the correct school code on there??

Yeah, I for sure did the 2009-2010 because the other schools I put on my FAFSA have all been informed. The school that I’m having the issue with is listed on my SAR so I definitely put in the right school code. I’m just not sure what else they would want in regards to the FAFSA besides my SAR. My only guess is the actual application I submitted.

Call the FA office and get a real live person to explain what they want. It could be you were selected for verification, so they want your tax info, or it could just be a mistake.

There are a couple possibilities. You may have sent the FAFSA to the school, but not to the right code for the school. For example, my school has a med school & a law school. Sometimes students use the wrong fafsa code, sending it to the med or law school code instead of to the main campus code.

Call the customer service number on your SAR. Ask them if the fafsa was actually sent to the school - if not, update it online to include the school.

If they did send it, there may be an issue with the computer system. Sometimes files don’t upload properly from the central processor. When I encounter an issue like yours, I ask the computer guru to look at the files for the processing date that is on the SAR. Sometimes she finds it & loads it.

There is also a possibility that your info on file at school doesn’t completely match your info on the fafsa - for example, if you used a different first name for school than you did on your fafsa. Many students have nicknames and are careless about which name they use - your “real” name is on the fafsa or it would have bombed due to no social security number match - but did you apply to the school using the same name? Or perhaps the school has your SSN in the system incorrectly.

There are several more reasons this may have happened. The first step is to make sure you sent it where it was supposed to go. Then call the processor to find out if it really was sent & when. Call the school & ask to speak to an aid officer if you need to.
