Question about FAFSA school listing

Should I list every school I have applied to or just list the ones where I'm going to need aid?

That's a good question. I believe that for need-based aid, you should list every school. However, I have another question, what if you are hoping for merit aid from your schools, and some of them require the FAFSA to be filled, while others don't mention it. Would it hurt your chances for merit aid, if your EFC is really high?

I have received an offer for a merit scholarship, which requires that I fill out a FASFA anyway. The letter that came with the offer also states "A student's ability to pay for college ddoes NOT impact awarding of scholarship dollars."

I think this should hold true for all merit scholarships, but maybe its best to check with the individual schools.

Thanks Happy
Do you think that they are asking for FAFSA, so that the Merit $ + Need $ together do not exceed your total costs? Why else would they want to know.

I can only guess, and agree with you that its probably the reason they do it. But I sure would like to know for sure. I wonder if any parents on here might know?

DS receives decent merit aid. We do the FAFSA every year for renewal. This is to verify that he doesn't qualify for any government supported finaid (he doesn't) which would be awarded first.

i think with merit scholarships, you will be awarded if you are eligible for need-based aid or not, but you might get more if you need aid.

I have qualified for merit scholarships. I just did the FAFSA and from the EFC it looks like I might qualify for about $10,000. How would this work? Would they decrease the merit? Thank you.
