question about financial aid

I just checked my financial aid and it was better than expected. Aside from the ones designated by loan and workstudy, are all the other ones designated as "award" considered grants(dont have to pay back?)?

Also, $2500 work study is good or bad? About how many hours is that?

I checked that Isis thingy and it said "no need." Does that mean I don't receive anything? Did anyone get any merit money? JHU is my first choice, but my parents are looking for something---anything??? If my number 2 choice gives me something, I may have to give up JHU.

yeah, mine says there is no financial aid posted yet. I hope that means its not posted yet because I really need the money. My twin and I are both attending. Ahhhh!

I dunno I just logged onto the liink in my email and I logged in. Once there I looked at the top and there was this tab that said "My Aid". It wasn't there yesterday so check again today. And apparently JHU does gives merit aid and more than one type as well

why are there only two different things for me
Federal Direct Loan-Sub
Federal Work Study

If my federal efc was 6K, shouldn't I get a Hopkins Need Based Grant too?

could it be because I have not filed my 2005 tax returns yet, because those are the only things that they have not recieved.

where do you find your isis id

My message reads, "No award information exists yet for the year and program type you selected. Please contact your financial aid office if you have any questions".

The other tab says that I have no need, and the cost is 47K+ I didn't even get work study or loans?? I need to call them before my parents cross JHU completely off my list. Although my EFC is more than the cost, I expected something...

Is the aid you get consistant with your EFC? If mine was pretty low, will I get the difference of cost and EFC in loans and stuff? If so, that would be rad.

I had a low EFC and I recieved nothing like that. But I mean its Hopkins so I should...so idk I'm gonna call the Fin . Aid office. it could be because I only sent 2004 returns in.

I got my official packet today via snail mail and they gave me tons and tons of money, but none showed up on my ISIS account. The snail mail packet has a lot more information about aid. Do all colleges give out about the same aid? I really want to go to Chicago but I'm waiting on aid. Does anyone know if it will be about the same?

hey micheal what was your efc?

I pmed you.

My ISIS account even says that my ISIS is no longer associated with any Role. I sucessufully accessed it a few weeks ago, and when I check the website just before the admission decision came out...I'm almost convinced that I'm rejected. But hey, even now after they offer me an insane amount of money, the ISIS is still associated with no "Role."

ahhhhhhh mine isnt "verified" yet. man i want the packet so i will have no worries whatsoever until i get there.

Some helpful financial aid info for you all:

*Full explanations of aid awards are included with your acceptance packages.

*Any questions about ISIS or your aid award should always be directed to the Financial Aid Office at fin_aid@jhu.edu or 410-516-8028. The Financial Aid counselors are there to answer your specific questions, and will provide a lot better information than some random person on CC, in my humble opinion.
