Question about Financial Aid

I plan to attend Rice (applied ED) and they say that if your parents make less than 60k per year, they will make the education affordable without any loans by means of grants, merit based aid, and institutional funds and work study. I fit into this category for sure.

According to Rice, the total COA breaks down like this.
Tuition $29,960
Fees 670
Room and Board 10,750
Books 800
Personal Expenses 1,550
$43,730

My question is this, does that mean that they will also cover the price for books and personal expenses in the award? Or will I have to find the means to pay for that on my own?

Also, in terms of work study, how much is supposed to be paid for the tuition each year from my working? I mean, will I have money left over after my tuition is paid? Will I still have my 1.5k allocation for personal expenses and the 800 for books? Or is any money left over to be used for books and things?

I know that I would like to make at least $100 a week which I feel is enough to live on if everything else is paid. Also, if they have a student contribution, is that to be covered from work study during the school year or must it be done from working in the summer time?

Thanks!

Rice says this and I dont understand what they mean by it

“Federal Work Study: Rice awards $1,800 in Federal Work Study to most students, which pays your salary should you choose to work while attending school.”

Does that mean that the MOST I can make is $1,800 a year?
What do they mean when they say, it will pay your salary? Wont the place that I work in pay me and then I inturn pay the school their portion?

Thanks again you guys

Anyone???

Most you can make in work-study job is $1800. There are plenty of non-workstudy jobs available on campus, and off-campus jobs like tutoring that you could do in addition to your workstudy job. Yes, they will pay you and you, in turn, will pay Rice. (but Rice will want their money up front.) I suggest you call the financial aid department if you need more information. :)
