I have a question, is it okay if I checked that I would apply for need-based financial aid on the application, but then don't? Thanks in advance.

Yes it’s ok. If you don’t complete the financial aid application forms, the schools will not award you aid. However, (free advice coming)…by completing the FAFSA you are eligible to take a Stafford loan. It will be offered to you. You might want to consider doing this just in case. You don’t have to take the loan but you might want to apply.

Also, check…some schools will not award financial aid in subsequent years IF a student does not APPLY for it as a freshman. Hopefully you won’t need aid in subsequent years, but if you do…you want to be sure you are eligible to apply at your school. Check.

If you checked the ‘need aid’ box at schools that are not need blind and won’t be applying, I’d let them know ASAP. It would impact your chances positively. Personally, I’d tell need blind schools too.

Ok, thanks for the responses, and especially about the information about the Stafford loan.
