Question about First Year Engineering

Hi guys, I'm about to complete my first year of engineering at Purdue University in one month. I feel that my grades were not good, but I'm not sure. I was just wondering how these grades may affect future job prospects, and admission into graduate school for my MBA.

First semester I got the following:

Calculus 1: B
Intro Physics: C
Engineering / Computer Tools: C
Chemistry 1: B
Engineering Seminar: Pass
GPA: 2.6

Second semester I am guessing I will get the following:

Calculus 2: B or A
Physics: Mechanics: C or B
Chemistry 2: B or A
Accelerated English: C or B
Worst GPA possible: 2.6
Best GPA possible: 3.5

Assuming the worst, will this have a large negative impact on my future prospects? I believe to my understanding, that I have learned the material very well, and understand how to apply it, but the exams were designed in ways that were meant to give out low grades. On our Calculus exams averages are usually almost always 55%. Chemistry averages hover at 65%. Physics averages are again at 55%.
I realize that due to the large number of students that get accepted to Purdue engineering, many MUST drop out, and that in sophomore lvl courses and above, the courses will not have goals that involve making students unnecessarily fail. I believe that in the future I can do better than my freshman year, but will this help at all?
The way I see it, I have not learned anything that will be applied to my job, so is it possible that employers will focus more on the years that involve professional school grades?

what is "intro" physics...?

Well it was a course that my advisor forced me to take, since I hadn't taken any physics in high school. It was a complete waste of time, doesn't affect my engineering admissions GPA. The stuff we're doing in mechanics now has very little relation to that course.

i'm on the 2nd semester frosh in purdue just like you. Just to tell you that freshmen engineering purdue is easier than the sophomore classes. I'm taking EE 201 and in my opinion it's much harder than the classes I've taken. It's your choice but there are people who are codoing when they are sophomore in engineering.

What classes did you take first semester, and what grades did you get?

I forgot to mention.. I did slack off first semester. If I didn't I could've gotten B's instead of C's, but that does not matter now. I haven't slacked this semester and I'm getting these grades.

multivariable calc - A
ENG 106 - A
ENGR 126 - B (I slacked on this one)
PHYS 172 - B (my final exam was really bad)
ENGR 100 - pass (duh)
overall: 3.53

It is not going to get any easier, and it would help a lot if you got a co-op or internship over the summer and if your GPA is under 3.0 that will be difficult to find. Don't wait until you are a junior to look for co-ops, you can start getting experience now.

I realize that this may be off topic but I have never seen/heard of anyone going for an engineering major and not have taken physics in high school. Maybe it was because you had no previous experience in this? Because I think I learned a lot of basic skills from 2 years of high school physics.
