Question about Food

I'll be visiting UCLA tomorrow. How much will it cost if I want to eat at one of the buffets? Do I just go in and pay, or do I have to get a ticket or go through some other procedure?

"If you are a campus visitor you may purchase a meal at the front desk for entrance into our four anchor residential restaurants or pay cash at Bruin Caf

I hear the buffets are awesome.

It's 7 bucks a meal at the dining halls and the price at Bruin Cafe and Crossroads depends per meal.

Hmm... I thought it was a little more than $7... Though it does depend on which meal you go to eat (ie breakfast, lunch or dinner.)

McGizzle,

Last time I was there (summer 2005), lunch was more than $7. In fact, if I remember correctly, dinner was over $10.

Either way, here's the rule to dorm food at UCLA: It's really good at the beginning of the quarter. That's because you've usually spent time at home, eating "real food." That clears your palatte, kind of like that funky ginger when eating sushi. Then, after about 4th or 5th week, something magical happens:

Everything starts tasting the same. The salads start tasting like the pizza, which tastes just like the ice cream.

It's truly a wondrous experience.

My god those prices are high. All I remember is that last time I swiped my dad and brother into the dorms, they took $7 each off my Bruin Card (I didn't have premier at the time), and usually the 7 dollar figure is what I hear quoted. Granted, that was a year or two ago. It must have changed since then, which doesn't surprise me at all.

Hmm...maybe. Or maybe I'm just being a dumbdumb and forgetting that summer is conference season, when they try to fleece rich conference people.

But I'm pretty sure it's gone up from $7. Hell, parking did.

It was $9 something for dinner last May. If you had a BruinCard, it was like a dollar cheaper.

ARgh, 8 dollars for visitor parking, and 7.50 for brunch

I went yesterday and it turns out they gave us a complimentary meal coupon courtesy of College Welcome Day so my dad and a friend of mine got in for free (though we did have to pay $10 beforehand for registration). The food at De Neve was probably very good but there was too much to choose from and the Jumbo Turkey Hot Dog I ate was too much. I put WAY too much ketchup and relish(ugh....). And I also got a few slices of bread, tossed in some egg salad(which I thought was potato salad), cheese, ham... It was not bad, not good but pretty darn filling. That machine that collects the trays is awesome lol...

Our family was turned away from the Rieber dining hall at dinner April 6 - they said we couldn't buy a ticket, had to have a Bruin card - and sent over to DeNeve (which we had already tried the day before with the admitted students free ticket.)
