Question about foreign language

When colleges recommend or require, let's say, at least 2 years of a foreign language, could that include middle school if the foreign language classes you took in middle school got you high school credit?

For example, I got 2 high school credits for foreign language from taking it in middle school, so have I fulfilled the requirement?

It depends on the school. But I'm pretty sure that most schools ask for 2 years of foreign language in HS.

Check with the schools you are interested in applying to. If you have two years of high school language on your high school transcript, that should fulfill the requirement-but some schools require more than two years and some will 'recommend' but not require. If English is not your first language, they are likely to view it differently than if English is your first language.

Yes it does include classes you took in middle school that are worth high school credit but it is recommended that you take the language you are learning all through high school to show dedication.

Okay thanks. :)

I was just wondering. I'm in 10th grade now and I'll have 4 years of foreign language on my transcript when 10th grade is over so this question doesn't pertain to me. I was just wondering because my friend wanted to know.

Universally, when colleges require or recommend a certain number of years of foreign language, they mean to complete that high school level of the language, e.g., second, third, or fourth year, not that you have to have that many years in high school, and if you were take the first two years of a language in middle school and do third and fourth level in freshman and sophomore year in high school, you will have completed the fourth level which is good for even the highest ranked schools. The area of some question is completing 2d year (many require two) before high school. For those colleges that require two, it is more an issue of whether your transcript will show that you completed the second year of the language because if they see no completion of any language on the transcript, they will assume you did not take it. Many public high schools at least include on your transcript high school courses you completed in middle school (although they usually do not show a grade for them).
