Question about Gen-eds/ Major

As a transfer student, i would still like to graduate on time. I was wondering whether or not classes required for your major could be simultanously used to satisfy gen-ed requirements (if the class qualifies). Are there any restrictions on this? I havent been able to find anything on their website.

i could be wrong about this but a as far as i know you can count as many major req's to satisfy GERs as you want/are able to. however, you can only double-dip GERs twice, meaning you can technically only use 2 GER classes to satisfy multiple gen-ed requirements. thing is, i think emory realizes the lack of effort displayed by the students (and many times the professor) in most GERs and chooses not to actually enforce that rule.

Most definitely, What are you thinking of majoring in?

I have the same problem. I am a transfer student and I've completed two years at another school in Georgia. I recently received an evaluation of credit in the mail from Emory detailing what courses I need to complete (i'll be transferring to Emory College). There are more courses listed though than I had imagined. Since I should be a junior right now I don't want to take some of the courses that are listed here (sophomore writing, historical perspective on world culture, physical science, quantitative methods, health and physical education, foreign languages etc, It would take me two more years to get all this done!). Is there any way to avoid taking them? Most of the courses I took at the other school are listed as electives and some have comments next to them such as "No Specific Course". On top of that I'm getting kind of anxious thinking about whether I can become a successful student at Emory or fail miserably. I would much rather take only the business pre-requisite courses listed (MATH 119 Business Calculus, BUS 201 Business Economics, BUS 350 Decision Science (Business Statistics), BUS 210 Financial Accounting)) and then maybe try to transfer into goizueta if I am up to their standards after one semester. Is there any possible way to do this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

fortune500, you question will be better answered by an Emory advisor.

There is no way to avoid the General Education Requirements.

With Junior standing, you will be able to get all the Pre-Reqs for Business as you will be only one of a very small few to take them in your Junior year.

OTOH, applicants to Goizueta are expected to have significant progress towards their GERs.

The GERs and Pre-Reqs are pretty easy though if you pick the right ones. Don't be too worried about the classes here.

"No specific course" means that there is no Emory course equivalent to the course listed. Emory is terrible at awarding transfer credit off the bat. Usually you have to petition the dean in order to receive credit for some classes. Make sure you have copies of all your old syllabuses. That will make everything much easier for you.
