Can you use google earth to "visit" colleges. i.e just get an idea of the campus?

Ofcourse, I use google earth most of the time when looking at campuses.

I have Its also useful to see the surrounding area. But its still necessary to visit in person

do you guys use google earth 5.0?

I like StreetView for the gritty feel of what streets are like. Also, Microsoft has a pretty impressive Bird’s Eye feature on Bing Maps.

Just be careful because a lot of the time the images will be several years old. I remember checking one school (not sure which) after I returned from a visit and the campus was really different (new buildings, parking lots, etc.).

I actually just use google street view.

google.com

This is a good option, but often times you can’t get into college interior streets, especially if they are suburban.

I have used Google or Windows Live Maps to get an impression of the campus before I visited, though.

lol wow this is classic. if you can’t appreciate the culture, feel, weather, accents, aroma, etc… of a campus you don’t deserve to visit!

What?

I’ve done it too. Not all of us can convince our parents to drop everything and run around the country visiting colleges.
