I've read frequently on this forum that students wishing to transfer to top schools from CC are expected to have a 3.85+GPA...and I was wondering if the same thing holds true for math/science majors?? I'll be leaving my cc having finished differential equations and linear algebra...as well as a year of calculus based physics...a year of general chem and a year of organic chem...my GPA will not be above a 3.8 and most likely will be around a 3.75. In case anyone is wondering, my top choice school is Amherst.

raise your SAT score to 2200+
do lots of ECs
Write a superb essay.

GPA isn't everything.
3.75 is still good.
People with 3.5 gets admitted to a top university, althought very rare, it's still possible, and they back it up with strong ECs and essay.

I'd say your GPA is pretty good. How about your major gpa? In some majors, your major-gpa can make a big difference, especially in math/science since they have extensive prereqs.

Other than that, I second what dhl3 said.
