Question about GPA Requirement

So I am interested in the Guaranteed Admission Program for Medicine at UPitt and one of the requirements of the program is to maintain a 3.75 GPA which is pretty high by itself but also significantly high when compared to GPA requirement of similar programs. I just wanted to know what this says about the coursework at UPitt. Is it easy then to maintain this GPA while majoring in science (bio, chem specifically) or philosophy (my intended majors)? I know there is already a thread similar to this but I am asking for input from current Pitt students more so but also other college kids with who I share majors.

I’m just assuming that you need to maintain a higher GPA because the medical school is considered one of the best in the country.

Philosophy ain’t an easy major, people…

I am in the Guaranteed admission program, and I can tell you that the coursework is not easy. It’s not impossibly difficult either, but you will have to put the work in to maintain a 3.75 science GPA. I am a Biology and Business major, entering my senior year, and I successfully maintained the GPA. The GPA requirement is very reasonable considering that PittMed is ranked top 15 in the nation, it’s actually roughly the average GPA of students that are accepted to PittMed the normal way.

the program is extremely competitive. 3.75 is no breeze at any school. if you get it you’re set good luck

i am in a rising senior in an IB program, in top 1%, HS GPA >4, SAT 2300. APs are 3 to 4 in sciences and 5s in non-sciences, will be higher next year so will take credit. I was thinking of applying to the Pitt guarantee. I really wish I could know what % of those who are in the program make it (keep 3.75 GPA) and remain qualified to go to Pitt med school even if they later choose to go elsewhere? Those who are in the program can you PLEASE reply? I have a good chance at another guaranteed program with a lower college GPA requirement but med school is not as highly ranked. I really want to go to Pitt med school because of many reasons. I don’t want to go to Pitt if >20% can’t keep up the 3.75 GPA.

The program is extremely competitive in terms of SAT scores and high school credentials as well as the medical experience that they want to see to let you in. I don’t have access to the numbers but I am sure that most (though surely not all) of the type of kids they let in are able to keep up that GPA. Pitt has a top Philosophy department (5th in the world) so I wouldn’t bet on it being easy. Biology and chemistry as hard pretty much anywhere I think. Honestly though, I think that if you can’t keep up that GPA you would have a tough time in Pitt med.

I am actually starting out with a Microbiology/Philosophy double major with a chem minor so I should have a much better idea of how tough this is by mid fall if you want to PM me. I am also pre-med so I am not planning on settling for anything less than a 4.0 but we will see if that is feasible.

If your smart enough to get into the Direct Med program which only takes 8-13 students then your definitely smart enough to maintain a 3.75.
