In 9th and 10th grade, about half of my classes were honors/AP and the rest regular. I got half A's and half B's, and 2 C+'s....

In 11th grade, I got all A's and A+'s in all AP or IB classes.
Also assume that first semester of 12th grade, i get all A's in AP classes.

My cumulative GPA all years is 3.67

Will colleges view me as an A student? Slacker? Average student? Decent Student? A kid who has gotten his act together and can be grouped with the A students?

Also, I have received all 5's on 7 AP tests, and one 4. If this helps.

By the way, the colleges i am looking at are ivies+stanford. So answer this question from their standpoint, if you can.

Hmm. The C+'s are troubling, but you show a promising upward trend. Why is this? Consider that, and think about whether it's a good reason that you'd be able to elaborate on in your essays.

The ivies and Stanford are going to look at you as a kid with a 3.67. Well Stanford won't count freshman year.

An upward trend id great and many colleges will give you a break, but not the very top ones. They just have too many applicants who have all As for 4 years and everything else they are looking for.

If you have strong SAT scores, colleges of the Emory or NYU level would probably give you a shot. You can always try to transfer later.

No way for Stanford or ivies. A recent article showed Middlebury threw out apps with a single C! Lots of kids get it later, but they don't end up at ivies unless they do great at another college and transfer.

Hmm, I read your post and then I noticed it was suze who posted it... and lately all I see is negative posts from suze? Is this a pattern with you? I'm finding it hard to find your advice credible, but I might be wrong.

Anyways, as for the thread subject, I've heard that they look at it positively, I'm actually in the same situation.

I would disagree. I think most schools, even at the top, will be very lenient about freshman year grades. I did terribly in my freshman year and then well in the following three. I ended up doing fine in college admission. Just to give some perspective, my school graded out of 7, in my freshman year I ended with a 3.5, a 4, a 5, and three 7s.

Looking only from a grades perspective, a C at any point of highschool will hurt at top colleges. While some say they throw out freshman year grades, really bad freshman year grades will still be seen on the transcript and hurt. Top schools may not be lenient freshman year because you are going to be a freshman next year and they want to know that you can succeed. If htere is more to your app, like a few amazing hooks, then Cs freshman year wont kill, but if you are a normal applicant who isnt captain of football team + president of class you cannot start behind the rest of the applicants.

Think of it as a race, your Cs delayed you by 10 minutes. There are many people faster than you and others just as fast as you. Is it likely that you will catch up to the front of the pack? NO. Can you? Maybe.
