Question about GPA

On the common app it asks to self report GPA. If I have a WEIGHTED gpa of 3.97 will this be 3.97/4 or 3.97/5? I decided to put 3.97/4 and noted that it was weighted. I then went on to submit my application. Is this ok the way I did it. If not do I need to notify the university?

Generally unweighted GPA is on a 4.0 scale and weighted GPA is on a 5.0 scale. I could be wrong but if you’re reporting your weighted GPA I’d say it’s out of 5 not 4. I would clarify with the university just in case. Some schools have weird GPA scales, but still. I’d email them to make sure.

@gdlt234‌ this won’t hurt my application though right?

Hurt? No I don’t think so. Especially if you go through the effort of clearing the situation up.

For my applications, I always put 4.0 scale for both unweighted and weighted. I am pretty sure this is the case if your school does the standard weighting where an A in Honors/AP = 5 points and an A in everything else = 4 points.
