Hello, I'm an international student and I have a question about converting GPA. In the common app, there's a part when your councelor should make a conversion from the grading system used in your country to the american system. My councelor who had never filled a rec before didn't know what to do so she used the conversion of primary school! I read on the wes conversion website that 16 and above (My grades are out of 20) is considered and A and actually my school gives merit awards to those who have a GPA above 16. With this system I had must a's and just a couple of b's..but according to her translation I had just a couple of A's, a bunch of B's, several C's and D's. What should I do? I'm ranked in the top 10 % of my class though...do you think that might help?

She'd never filled out a rec before? Sorry to hear that- inept GCs are frustrating. (I got really lucky with mine, but I hear stories...)

You should really explain the system to her- even if she's already sent one in, she could send another one with a note of explanation. Other than that, I don't know what to tell you. It's good that you're in the top 10%, of course, but you shouldn't let your grades be misrepresented like that.

Good luck!
