just a quick question about the GPA checked by UCs. I know they look at what your GPA is after Fall, and I have a 2.97. My question is this, I took one class and got a D in it and it dropped my GPA because it was a 5 Unit class. (Not trying to make excuses but I care for my blind mother). I didn't need the class but I'm retaking it right now. Do UCs ever consider what your GPA is after spring or anything like that?

no. only if ur accepted do they care about ur spring grades. they don’t do what USC does and ask for spring grade requests.

thanks a lot, how much can activities help out out of curiousity. i tutor for the school for free, part of amsa and began mesa at our school.

GPA is the most important factor when determining admissions. ECs play a far smaller role. Berkeley/Haas cares the most about ECs, but even for them ECs are only worth 15%. so that tells u that GPA, essays, grade trend etc. are way more important than ECs

Cool I appreciate it, Lakers are dope haha.
But UCSD doesn’t factor in essays correct? I mean worse case scenario I can appeal I guess but that doesn’t mean anything. My CC president graduated from UCSD and he said he knows the transfer person or w/e and would write a recommendation. I appreciate it. I just had that one down semester because of the stuff I had to do and rebounded back the next semester, its the only D i ever got. I have 2 C’s and the rest A’s and B’s

^ UCSD does not factor essays when reviewing applications.

@lakerforever24 where did you get that 15% figure? Is there a breakdown of factors and their weight somewhere?

^ya, its on their site under faq about haas i believe

http://www.haas.berkeley.edu/Undergrad/transfer_faq.html

^ it is at the bottom of the page.

do i have a shot at ucsb? thats where i want to go

IGETC complete, part of MESA, Honor’s Program, American Medical Association…

I don’t believe “normal” Berkeley admissions (like L&S) does percentage weighing. I’m not sure, though.

how does percentage weighing work anyways? if i get a 90% does that mean im in.

Oh, those weights are for HAAS. I wonder if they’re the same for other majors though… business majors seem like they’d require more ECs.

Your being accepted is based on the slots available and your application score relative to other applicants. Your individual score won’t tell you much about your chances, other than having a high score is better than a low one.

This is their update for 2009 3.3 gpa was the average admit 70% admit it looks like so maybe your within the +/- 3 though your odds aren’t great

@empathyinanarchy ya i know. im applying to haas haha.

@ Random_Monkey, good luck bro. My friend got into Haas last year and he’s loving it man. The city is amazing, I just need to get away down south…

^that’s funny because I need to get away up north
