Question about GPA

Hey there. Well first off, I'm a senior and my High school GPA isn't looking too hot. I go to a college prep, all gender school. It is very tough, and when I look back I wish that I either tried harder, or had gone to a public school. Anywho, my GPA is a 2.313, yes, it sucks. I'm so worried. I don't want to go to a community college (sorry, being at home/in an apartment freshman year is not my preference). This semester, my last semester before I send in college apps, I am striving to make straight A's and get on the Deans list. For some reason, I have never really cared much for school, until junior year, I realized I should care. When I was a soph. and fresh., i just did enough to get by (B's and C+s). Junior year I stepped up, but the classes were hard (WAAY harder than this year, by far). English has not been my best subject, but last year, I tried harder in english, and I still came out with a C. The teacher was a HARD teacher, the class was basically memorization, and by memorization, i mean it. You would have to remember EVERY single word the teacher said, and 2nd semester I was on the verge of getting a D for the semester, which I didn't get thank goodness.

Anyways, here is some background info?

Freshman year- I was diagnosed the a puedo-tumor, which is a tumor made out of spinal fluid, and it builds up behind the eyes and presses on the optical nerve. This made me have double vision, and headaches. This significantly affected my grades, so I had a bad start off to high school.

Every year of high school i take five classes.
The GPA calculator is:
A+-4.3, B+- 3.3, C+- 2.3, D+, D, D- -1.0
A- 4.0, B- 3.0, C- 2.0
A- - 3.7, B- - 2.7, C- - 1.7
and of course for AP classes a 1.0 is added

Senior year Schedule:
AP World History
Discrete Math
Poli Sci/Econ
Environmental
English IV

Environmental had an optional AP, but that was taken away. I was planning to take intro to psych at the college that is right across from us (it is affiliated with the school, some people got to take college classes, and some didn't get to). If I took this, it would count as an AP course. There are so many reasons why I regret going to this school, and this is one of them- I can't get the classes that I would like to take.
I would've taken AP Stats, but I had that teacher for Alg. II and I didn't like the way she taught. I thought it would be better to be safe than sorry- especially for senior year.

I would like to go to either UKentucky or USouth Carolina. If i can't go to those I would like to go to a four year in state college one or two years and then transfer to UNC-Chapel Hill.

My college counselor said that UK and USC were a "maybe" so i'm trying to get my GPA up to at least a 3.0... which she said it might change some of her opinions..
Places that i'm applying:
UK
USC
Queens University of Charlotte
UNC-G
NCSU
ASU (App)
Hollins
Meredith
ECU
UNC-W

Anyways, my question is that, if I get straight A's this semester, how much would it bring my GPA up? I asked my college counselor this and she said that it wouldn't raise it up much, since it is the seventh semester, and it would only raise maybe 1/10th. Is this true? cause I did different scenarios of grades on my calculator (i'm really good at math, so i know what i'm doing) and I always came out with at least a 3.0. This is making me really worried! Is this really true? That it will only raise to 1/10th? Is there a different possible way that my school would calculate the GPA differently? Please help!

Oh, and please no rude comments, saying that I'm not going to get into college and have to go to a community college. Cause I already know, I can. (Please don't judge me, too).

If anyone can answer this asap (and explain thoroughly), then that would be awesome! =)

Here’s the fix. Get really high senior year grades and apply to a Canadian University, they only look at Grade 12 grades.

It depends on the number of classes you’ve taken, but let’s assume it’s 8 per semester. First you would need to convert your GPA to grade points by multiplying by the number of classes. 6 semester * 8 classes /semester = 48 classes. 48classes * 2.313 grade point average = 111 grade points.

If you get straight A’s in 8 classes, that’s an additional 4*8 = 32 grade points to give you a total of 143 grade points. To get the new average, divide that by the 48+8=56 classes you would have taken through 7 semesters -> 143/56 = 2.55 GPA.

And, for the record, there’s nothing wrong with going to a community college your first year or two. You’re better off doing that, earning a high GPA, then going to UNC-Chapel Hill than spending 4 years at Queens College of Charlotte or ASU.

I’m not spending four years at those colleges, It would only be one or two years and then transferring cause those colleges do not have one of the majors that I want to major in. I know there is nothing wrong with a community college, but that is just not what I want.

But thanks for the GPA answer, that really helped!
