Hello guys, I am relatively new to the graduate school admissions process and so this may seem like a relatively naive topic.

But I'm really curious as to how many people have heard about people getting rejected after interview with POIs? I just went to Columbia's interview for PhD in BME, so I'm actually really wondering if you have ever heard people getting rejected from Columbia post-interview for BME? But any story/comment for other school is much appreciated!

I don’t know about BME, but in my department at Columbia (psychology) we certainly reject people after the interview. The interview is still part of the application process, and the whole point is to discover if someone is a good fit for our department and our lab. Sometimes they aren’t, and so they’re rejected. It says nothing about their credentials (typically if they made it to interviews, they’re good enough to be accepted) but really speaks more to “fit” in a variety of ways - research fit, personality fit, etc.
