I'm a freshman in college who is considering transferring after a year.

In 9th grade, I took AP Art I, and for reasons I don't want to go into detail explaining, got a D!

Without the D, my HS gpa would be a 3.61 UW, and with the D, it's a 3.51 UW. Will colleges even care about the D? I'm a Pol Sci/Govt major, not Art.

Also, in 8th grade, I took two 9th grade level classes which were factored into my HS GPA, and are on my transcript. However, I didn't do well (C+ and B-) and those are also clogging down my GPA.

Will colleges even look at my two 8th grade (but 9th grade class) grades and my 9th grade Art grade? Without those those 3 classes, my GPA is a 3.65 UW instead of a 3.51 UW.

thanks!

you're aggregate gpa is very important, so to the extent that those classes negatively influenced your final gpa they will matter

that said, colleges like to see an upward trend in your grades, so your 3.5 may be better than someone else who also has a 3.5 but has gone downhill since they started hs

thanks

wow that blows, I hate how 8th grade is screwing me over, and art of all things. anyway, I'm going to assume that colleges will look mostly at my last two years of high school and freshman year of college, rather than 8th/9th grade? or is that a bad assumption to make?

that is a fine assumption

they will likely look at your last two years of hs more than the first two, but that gpa still matters a lot regardless of how you cut it

another point, do not hold me to it

i kind of remember an admissions representitive from nyu visiting my school and telling me they recalculated your gpa and disregarded your art and gym credits in the process

I AM PROBABLY WRONG ON THIS! IT WAS PROBABLY ANOTHER REPRESENTATIVE FROM ANOTHER SCHOOL

something you might double check though tomorrow

thanks
hmm I'll ask my advisor at NYU about that, but when I apply to transfer, won't it be my high school sending my transcript? So it doesn't really matter how NYU chooses to calculate my gpa, my HS will do it differently. I know my gym grades aren't calculated into gpa, but in hs, art/music was and plus it was AP Art...haha not sure if that makes a diff or not.
