Question about grades

I just came to the states and this is my first year in high school. (I’m a sophomore)

I was wondering about grades…

Is it graded based on your actual scores or just the letter grades?

For example, if someone got A(95), B+(91), B(85), C(75) for 4 quarters in a subject, is his final grade going to be

(95+91+85+75)/4=86.5 FINAL GRADE: B

or

(4+3.5+3.0+2.0)/4= 3.125

BTW, my school’s grading scale is awful.
A: 94~100 (4.0)
B+: 90~93 (3.5)
B: 84~89 (3.0)
C+: 80~83 (2.5) etc.

I don’t think the second method is how it works, but just to make sure (:

And most importantly…
do colleges examine each quarter grades or just the final grade?

Please leave many feedbacks!

I found out that my precal grade for the first quarter is B+(89)... totally devastating. It might seem like an over-reaction but I'm an Asian so I'm REQUIRED to be good at math unfortunately. I just hope that I could get an A for the course even if I have a B+ right now.

chill out. a B in math isnt going to kill u. although i can totally relate. im asian and a B in precalc would alarm me more than a B in like apush
