Question about Haas Unit Requirements

Hi everyone,

I’m going to a CC here in SoCal and planning on applying to transfer later this fall. So while going over the requirements on assist something caught my attention:

"Units earned for prerequisites may not equal the 60 semester (90 quarter) unit minimum required to transfer. If you need to take additional courses to meet the unit requirement, consider taking breadth courses. Breadth is a degree requirement and breadth coursework is not required for admission. Visit our website for additional information about breadth requirements. Haas uses the College of Letters and Science (L&S) Breadth list with

-Business courses cannot be used for breadth.

-Haas prerequisites cannot be used for breadth.

-Micro-economics or macro-economics cannot be used for breadth.

-Scores of A, B or C on GCE A levels are accepted. "

Here is the list of prereqs I need to take at my CC that are required for the major.

Calc 1 (5 units)
Calc 2 (5 units)
Micro Econ + macro econ (6 units) OR Intro to Business (3)
Stats (4 units)
Freshman Comp (3)
Critical Thinking (4)

So, assuming I complete all the prereqs and take the econ classes, that adds up to 30 units total. Am I to complete an ADDITIONAL 60 units on top of that for a total of 90 units just to qualify for transfer? I see a bunch of people applying with less credits on here but I’ve also read that the major reason people are denied is because they don’t meet the requirements by the end of Spring. Thanks guys.

Haas has very specific requirements as a result of the abundance of applications they receive from transfers every year. I highly recommend calling their admissions office. They are really friendly and deal with these questions all the time. Honestly, I had a similar question and drove 2hours to ask in person when I could have just called in 5 minutes LOL. It was such a waste of my time but I wrongly assumed they would be more helpful in person.

I believe Haas admissions require 60 total semester units (freshman and sophomore years combined) completed by end of Spring or before enrolling in the Fall Semester at Haas. If you are short on the 60 semester unit before transferring, you can fulfill the shortfall by taking breadth courses. Btw, 90 units are quarter units. The conversion is 1.5 x semester unit = a quarter unit or divide the quarter unit = semester unit.

Hey guys, looks like you’re right. All it’s saying is the pre reqs probably won’t add up to 60 units. I was interpreting it wrong, my bad!
