Okay, so I am not sure if the 'rules and regulations' are the same for all counties in Florida/ states in the US, but I have a question about high school credits.

-Just finished first week of senior year-

Before I finished Junior year, I was told by my guidance counselor that if I made a 4 on the AP Language exam and took ENC 1101 (Freshman english) at my local community college (dual enroll) during the summer, I would earn the college credit for AP Literature.

So to make sure, I had AP Literature in my schedule incase I did not get a 4.

And then came mid-July--I saw I earned a 4 on the exam. I was excited, because I thought this meant I could drop AP Literature.

I was told by my boyfriend and some of his friends that go to another school in the same county that taking ENC 1101 would also count as the 4th English credit for high school, which let them drop AP Literature when school started. (Not because they got college credit, but because they had all four English credits). We were all in the same ENC 1101 class during the summer.

However, today when I went down to my guidance counselor, she would not let me drop AP Literature. Why? Because apparently the English course I took over the summer did not count as my fourth English.

A week into school, and I am still in AP Lit. I was planning to take economics and Art 3d instead, as I am missing a fine art credit as well as the mandatory economics class.

It was either I stay in AP Lit (which had a huge summer assignment that I didn't do) and take Economics and Art 3d online, or take Econ and Art in school, and English IV Honors online (which she didn't recommend as it was a mandatory class...like the others -_-).

I opted to take Econ/Art in school, and Eng IV online. I need them all to graduate anyway.

What I don't get is, why are they allowed to drop AP Lit because they now had a 4th English credit, and I'm not?
Is my school different? Is my friends' school different?

This is not the first time my guidance counselor has given me incorrect information, if this time she has.

The first time she told me that I could not dual enroll fall of Junior year if I did not take my SATs.
I didn't have to take my SATs, I just had to take the CPT (PERT) test offered at the community college and score high enough in the math/reading/writing sections.

Is my guidance counselor trustworthy?
Should I go to a different counselor?
And is it different for every school?

I know states may do it differently, but what about counties?

Please and thanks for answering!

EDIT: My boyfriend was the one that told me I did not need to take the SATs, and he was correct. I trust him more than my guidance counselor about school, which is .....sad.
