Question about high school transcripts for transfer applicants

I'm curious... I'm attending a state school next year for the musical theater BA program. I was planning on applying to a bunch of schools as a transfer next winter hoping to get accepted into a decent BFA program else where. But I'm concerned because some schools want their transfers to send high school grades and college grades. Although I'm sure my college grades will be excellent, as I'm very driven to make sure I get exceptional grades in college, I'm a little worried about my HS transcript. My grades were inconsistent through out my high school career. If I'm a transfer, can I get away with not sending my high school transripts?? If I do end up having to send them, will colleges overlook them if my first semester college grades are strong?

My eldest son's experience on transferring this year (not a theater major) was that schools had a threshold that once reached they would not require high school transcripts. This threshold was a certain amount of completed college units (generally 30 semester units or about 1.5 years). If you took extra courses during the summer and regular terms, you might be able to reach that threshold. Otherwise, they'll be asking you to send H.S. records. As a consolation, they do seem to heavily weight your most current college work as evidence of your college potential and work ethic.

Yeah. My experience was that if you're applying to transfer while still a freshman, most schools will ask for you h/s transcript. If it will make you feel more confident, you might be able to get away with waiting to send it along with your kickass new college grades, but do make sure you check on the deadlines because they may differ between the schools. Also, my impression is that they don't even look at your application packet until they have everything, so they'll probably be looking at both transcripts at the same time.
