hey guys. i got accepted into university park. i didnt apply to honors college at first but changed my mind and am going to.

is it worth it for me to apply because im figuring im on the low side with grades:
1810 sat
4.1 GPA Weighted
670 chem SAT2
top 15% rank
4 honor societies
cross country 4 years, baseball/volleyball 2 yrs each
red cross
key club

Yeah I’d say you have extremely low chances.

SHC admission doesn’t go by test scores (they claim they don’t even consider your test scores). It’s all about your essays, recommendations and transcripts. They also look for students who have shown leadership ability.

However, your big problem is your timing. The priority deadline was in November, and the first wave of acceptances (from kids who met that deadline) will go out in a few weeks. So while you technically have until March 1 to apply, I suspect the odds are against you at this point.

But I still think it’s worth a shot. There are a lot of benefits if you get in.

They don’t consider SAT scores, so those won’t be held against you. I’ve heard a lot of the decision is based on the essays and recommendation letters from the application, so you never know. If you’re interested, give it a shot. If you don’t get in and still want to do it, you can always apply as a sophomore or junior.
