If we apply for housing app and also SIR later, but all before the deadline, would it matter? Is the housing based on first-come first-serve method?

Yep, the whole process runs a first-come, first-served basis. I highly recommend you get to it asap if you're UCSD bound for the fall. :) I dont know how it works exactly, but it decreases the likelihood of being assigned to a triple; if thats what you desire.

I don't know about other colleges, but in Warren sending in your housing app early doesn't decrease the likelihood of being assigned a triple. First come, first serve only applies to whether you get a res hall or an apartment. Single/doubles/triples are determined by lottery.

Not true. First come, first served applies to people requesting single rooms as well, so I've been told. At least in Warren. It certainly happened to me - I'm in a single and I submitted my app on the second to last day.

is res hall better than apartment?

well I was accepted to Sixth college.. so does anyone know how they manage the housing process there?

i got into muir...how do they do it for that college? i really don't want a triple room.

I was wondering what people would recommend for Marshall for one's Freshman year. And what would be better as far as single/double/triple.

I'm in Muir and I'm pretty sure they do theirs on a first come, first-served basis. The sooner you send your application in, the sooner they send you an e-mail with all the instructions of what to do and how to fill out their room mate questionare. That happens between mid-may and June 8th.

well apparently, at muir at least, it's all triples and singles next year
