I need to catch up on a lot of things next semester, and so aside from my 4 classes I will be taking on campus (12 units) I will be taking one online class (worth 3 units) too.

I was just wondering, because i've never taken an online class. I know the 4 on campus classes will be taking up a lot of my time...so is it possible for me to take my "online" class just on the weekends? I think its the only days i'll be free...and I don't mind using them to take that one class. but I don't know, are there certain days we need to log on for exams and such? or could I fulfill all the hours I need for class on one particular day each weekend?

Normally your instructor will have deadlines even though the whole point of online classes is using your time the way you see fit. In one of my past online classes, homework was due on Thursdays and quizzes/exams were taken Friday or Saturday. So in that sense, no, you can't only dedicate the weekend to your online class. Best you check with the course syllabus, though.

The online course will have time periods when exams are available. This depends on the course though. If it is an english course you will mostly have essays probably so you may just have specific due dates, but if the course has actual exams, usually there is a 3 day window or a week long window, depending on the teacher, where the exam is open and you have to complete it during that time.

You do not have to log on daily to an online course.

Most online courses have things like a discussion, where a question is posted and everyoen must reply on a weekly basis and must reply to a few of their classmates, this usually has due dates throughout the week.

Online courses vary, but it is unlikely that you can shove everything solely on a weekend because usually there are things due throughout the week.

I had one online class where the instructor actually required you to log into the class a set number of hours a week, which I thought was... weird.

I don't see the point of it, really. Once I saw that logging into the class x amount of hours a week, I would just leave the computer logged on overnight or something since I never saw the point if the basic objective each week was to read the chapter, do the homework, participate in dicussions, and take the exams. (All of which probably took at most an hour a week.)
