question about igetc

i was wondering if i needed to notify my counselor if i follow the igetc plan or can i just take the classes listed on igetc and just get it certified when i am done without notifying my school's office or counselor to begin following the plan.

you can do your own thing, but I would suggest to go in and talk to a counselor. I did it and I saw that it helped in many ways.

-I made a 2 year plan and didn’t have to worry about scheduling (it took 30 min)
-I got to find a good counselor that I liked and was helpful.
-The counselor told me about options I didn’t know existed
-the 2-year plan is basically what you enter on your application, so that was all planned out already
-You can find out about any transfer programs by talking to the counselor
-It’s better to get an outside opinion from someone who is impartial than just your own opinion on your academic planning

I transferred into Cal and my counselor was probably the most helpful person I had during the application process.

hey this may not be related to your question, but do you HAVE to complete the IGETC before transferring? I am transferring to UCSD or UCD and will have 60 units by the end of spring 2010 ( applying for fall 2010). I will be completed with the English-math-etc. requirements along with the assist.org requirements for both schools.

depends on your major but overall yes, read the igetc form that your CC hands out and go to the school’s websites that you’re interested in (under transfer admissions)
