a columbia alum emailed obviously about holding an interview and said i should give her a call. i don't have much experience with these...when i call back and she asks what date is good for me, in what kind of time frame do they expect to hold the interview (within two weeks? within two months?). please advise.

Try to offer the soonest free date you have. The sooner you get your interview done, the better chance it has to enhance your application (get reviewed). Mine was held the day after I called back. Just try to show them that you’re interested, responsible, and professional.

try “i’m flexible” or “whenever is good for you”

This is pretty poor logic. It doesn’t matter.

Most likely, the interviewer will tell you the time frame he has in mind. E.g., “Is there a good time for you within the next couple weeks” or “I’m going out of town in January but I’m scheduling all my interviews for February.” If in doubt, you should assume that the interviewer wants to meet you within the next couple weeks.
