Question about Juilliard

I talked to a Juilliard Admissions lady over the phone and she told me she wasn’t under the impression that the applicant is not allowed to choose which monologues to do in the initial audition, that you are supposed to go in, tell them what you have prepared and they will select two pieces that sound the most interesting to them. I can’t gauge the reliability of this information, because I don’t know if this person I talked to was an official representative or just a receptionist saying what she thinks she might have heard. To those of you who auditioned for Juilliard this year, did they let you choose what you wanted to show them?

When I went, they just asked what I was going to do and I said the two pieces I had picked to lead with and then did them.

Same for my S. They just asked him what he would do, and he did the pieces.

Once you do your pieces the first time at the callbacks I believe they tell you which one they want you to do.

After my daughter did her first two monologues, they invited her back and asked her what other monologues she had. They asked her what monologue she liked more and then asked her to perform the other one. Thought it might be useful for you to know, in case you have a situation like that. So, I guess it is possible that the applicant does not decide what monologue to read because the auditors pick one from the list of four.
