Question about Kelley

Hello everyone,

I was accepted to Kelley yesterday and was wondering if somebody could give me some insight on IU. I am still not 100% set on business which is why I am considering a few liberal arts schools as well. I performed a job shadow in the city and really enjoyed it. Anyway, if I were to choose to attend Kelley I would major in finance and would look to pursue Investment Banking.

How is the overall education at Kelley? How difficult is the curriculum?

Is the IB workshop extremely selective? If I am not accepted into the IB workshop, is IB still a strong option?

I am from Chicago so how strong is the network in both Chicago and NYC? I know they boast the largest alumni network in the country.

Thank you!

Yes, the IB workshop is extremely selective. It becomes more selective each year as the caliber of Kelley students increases. Many IB seminar (one step below the workshop) students are receiving IB offers, but it’s rare for someone outside of the workshop and seminar.

Chicago alumni network is extremely strong.

The real thing you may want to consider is what’s driving you to consider finance at Kelley vs. a few liberal arts schools. Unless by liberal arts school you mean Economics at an Ivy League caliber institution, those two options are extremely different.

@hkem123 I mentioned liberal arts schools because I am not 100% sure that business is what I want to do. Liberal arts gives me the chance to explore but IU is my destination if I do decide to choose business (I’m talking about Colgate, Bucknell, and Kenyon for the LACs).

What about the seminar, how selective is that compared to the workshop? Are either of these realistic goals?

thanks

No use bringing up the seminar as it is now going to be obsolete as of next year. The seminar is being discontinued and instead the workshop will have 20 more spots.

I’m a sophomore and just received two BB offers for IB positions in NYC. The network in Chicago is super strong, NYC is a little harder but it is known. I have yet to apply to the workshop, but it is selective. However, chances are you are a good candidate if you are on CC.

Kelley is VERY different from an LAC. What is your ambition for wanting to go to an LAC? Why are you considering Kelley specifically?
