I am wondering if anyone can provide me with some information about the language requirements are Harvard, as well as, other Ivies. I believe it is recommended that 4 language courses are taken, but how strict is this rule. I don't enjoy taking the language classes, and if I opt not to I could take more AP classes or local university classes. I have two years of Spanish completed. I would like some input about my situation if possible.

Google can (and should) be your best friend for questions such as this. For example, if you Google “Harvard Foreign Language Requirements”, you will find the above link, which stipulates that if you score a 5 on the AP Spanish Exam, you are exempt from further foreign language courses at Harvard – otherwise, you must take a year of foreign language courses during your freshman or sophomore years.

As language requirements for every Ivy are different, YOU (not me) need to Google “Foreign Language Requirements” for each college you are interested in.

For admission, Harvard “recommends” 4 years of one language. When a top Ivy says they “recommend”, the applicant should read between the lines and know they really mean ‘require’. Unless your HS does not offer 4 years of a single language, or some other condition beyond your control prevents completing the 4, you should just do the 4 yrs.
