Question about "legacy"

OK, so, obviously, legacy in the truest sense of the word means that your parents or grandparents attended the school.

But what else has a similar sway?

I'm mostly curious about if your parent has taught at the school. My dad taught at a college I'm applying to for something like eight years -- does this impact admissions decisions at all? This college is one of those where legacies allegedly have a definite edge, by the way, but does this count as a legacy? He has essentially similar knowledge of the college to what a graduate would have -- he was friends with his students and yadayadayada -- but, then again, he doesn't actually have the degree.

I already sent in my app, and the only place I mentioned it was in the "where have you gotten info about this school?" place, which was the only place I felt it was appropriate.

A lot of schools on their app ask if anyone in your family is affiliated with the college, alumni and faculty included. Your situation would not make you a legacy. To be a legacy, somone from your family has to graduate.

You said you had filled out the "where have you heard of this school" space with the appropriate data, so that should suffice.
