Hello, I was wondering if I could use my UVa Engineering Supplement essay to answer prompt #4. Here are the two topics:

UVa Eng. Sup.- If you were given funding for a small engineering project, what would you do?

GT #4- In the Georgia Tech spirit of innovation and improving the human condition, describe a societal problem that exists locally, regionally, nationally or globally and propose a feasible solution.

Any feedback is appreciated.

I doubt it. The GT topic talks about a societal problem. That means the focus is more on the problem and its effect on the society

UVa would be more about you and your engineering project.

Does your small engineering project essay…

describe a societal problem that exists locally, regionally, nationally or globally and propose’s a feasible solution?

or can you add an intro and ending that makes it do the above? if so then yes if not then no.

Well, my engineering essay talks about the dangers of black ice and proposes a salt dispensing mechanism be attached on the back bumper of cars. Is this too specific? I think I might be able to add to my intro to encompass the “societal problem” part of the prompt.

Also, my engineering essay is only about 2000 characters. I think the essay is well written and concise. How many more characters do I need to add to be in the “good range” for the long essay? I can PM the essay if you would like to read it.

I don’t know if that’s what they are really looking for. I guess it would depend on your intro. My DS did his on question #1 the advice one , it was 4665 characters and he was accepted. However I’m not sure if the essay length was one of the reasons or not. The long essay has 5,000 characters as the max and 1000 was the max on the short essay so I’m just guessing it should be at least 4,000 characters?? Again I’m just guessing but 2,000 seems too short.

Eddie - If you PM the essay to me I will read it and let you know if it sounds like it answers the prompt. Just remember I am not an english teacher.:)
