So I know some schools have PreReqs/GE ou have to complete. In my situation, I'm considering an Econ or Mat major and both require 8 credits in order to complete the major, but after reading the course catalog, I have to take atleast 2 Pre-Reqs in order to start taking the required classes that count toward the 8 credits for the major. Does this mean I'll have to spend 6 years at my college trying to complete the major? Do I take like 3 classes my junior year that counts toward my major? Any experience/knowledge?

Yeah I am. I’m going to knock them all out my freshman year, but I’m confused as to how majors work. After I get all my PreReqs out the way, do I take a lot of classes geared towards my major?

Ex,. Lets say I’m done with all my PreReqs, will the following be how my schedule would look.

Multivariate Calculus
Linear Algebra
Economic Theory
Real Analysis

I’m sorry if I’m confusing anyone. I’m just really lost as to how majors work. I just wanted to know before I went to my school but I guess I’ll just ask my academic advisor.

Yes, it would be best to consult an academic advisor on this. How the hell are we supposed to know what your schedule would look like? You just need to take the classes required for your degree(s)… which would probably include taking major classes, yes…

I’m kind of confused as to your question, but I’ll try.

After you get the prereqs done, you take what ever classes you want. Usually, students will take most of their major courses in their junior and senior year. It’s normal to be taking more than one class in your major per semester.

Students usually take more than one course per semester towards their major. Here’s a typical course sequence for a math major who starts college with Calc I:

Yes, that’s the idea. Make sure to pay attention to attention to course sequences and prerequisites. For example, real analysis is typically taken after multivariable calculus and linear algebra.

Got ya Pandem and B@r!um! That’s what I thought because when I was reading the catalog I was like “How the hell am I’m supposed to pursue this major by taking one class per semester, I’ll never finish.”
