I am planning on applying to Brown with English as my first choice and Engineering as my second. I have taken AP Chem and Bio, but not AP Physics. I didn’t do so hot on the Chem exam and had a B+ in the class. I’m currently doing very well in AP Bio. Also, the only Science subject test I took was Bio, which I didn’t get my highest score in (740). I have participated in Science League and Science Honor Society.
Also, I’m planning on submitting two teacher recs-one English, and one Math. (AP Calc BC)

Given my background, do you think it is a bad idea for me to apply as an Engineer?

Typically your major won’t be the absolute deciding factor. As long as your ECs, scores, and essays are strong, you can get in regardless of your major.

I am the mother of a son who is applying to brown class of 18. Just wanted to say something that is kind of separate than what the OP was about. Advice is to NEVER on official application to brown (like through essays, supplements, additional info, etc) to call brown’s programs MAJORS because they are not majors and brown very specifically doesn’t like those to be called majors (thats the feeling i got based on their website and after visiting and meetign my son’s regional officer) They are called concentrations. Just advice because im pretty sure they would not like tht u called them majors in essays/supplements and such because they might think u didnt do ur research and arent interested in brown completely. just a heads up and my.02 cents
