Question about majors

Currently, I am listed as an English major, would it be possible to switch my major to another within the College of Arts and sciences?

Also, do you know if its possible to fufill both the requirements for an economics major and the requirements for pre-med? Because I want to do med school but I also want something to fall back on if I dont get in.

bump please

it;s possible to switch within the majors; [Letters & Science Academic Advising :: Change of Major Petition](http://www.advising.ltsc.ucsb.edu/graduation/petitions/changeofmajor.php) i guess you have to go pick it up from the CLAS department. and i would have no idea; check with the econ dept and the bio dept to see if you overlap any classes

^ I’m not sure if you’re a freshman or a transfer student…but, yes you can switch majors. When I applied as a transfer student, I listed communication and business econ as my two choices. UCSB accepted me as a pre-communication major. After going to the orientation, I talked to the advisor for the Econ dept and successfully switched to Business Econ with emphasis in Accounting after completing one pre-req that I needed for the major.

If you’re a freshman, I believe you’re given 2 quarters until you declare as pre-major then after you complete the pre-reqs for the major you want, then you can declare full major. If you’re a transfer student, you basically need to go to the department of the major you want to switch to. They will see what pre-reqs you would still need to fulfill before declaring full major. You can also check this website: [Letters & Science Academic Advising :: Changing your major](http://www.advising.ltsc.ucsb.edu/undeclared/changing.php)

About fulfilling requirements for econ and pre-med…it’s all up to you. If you think you can handle two majors then do it. For students doing double majors, the school actually says that its more advantageous for the student if its two different degrees (one being B.S. the other a B.A.). I say this because some students will try to double major of the same degree. The best thing to do once you get here is to ask help from the academic advisor of the College of Letters and Science, they’re really helpful with things like these.

Im a freshman student. So is there no way to change majors before I even begin taking my classes?

It’s still possible for you to switch majors just check in with the advisors. Besides when you start your first quarter, you’d still have to do some GE classes.

do you think it would be easy to transfer from a spanish major to a business major?? my first choice was business too

^There’s no business program in UCSB, but it has a business econ program under the economics dept. However, to answer your question, spanish is in the same college as bus econ, so if you want to transfer, all you need to do is talk to the econ department and they will check if you had completed all the pre-reqs for the major then they have you complete a form then you’re in. If you haven’t completed the pre reqs then all you need to do it is complete those classes you need in UCSB with an average of 2.8 gpa.

When I transferred I switched from Comm major to Bus Econ with emphasis in Accounting. But I had to do one calculus class the summer I transferred before officially declaring as bus econ major. Hope this helps!
