So I will be attending UGA honors program in about a month and a half. My orientation is in 10 days and I am trying to figure out what I want to major in. I think I want to be either a neurologist or neuroscientist, but I'm not sure of anything. I was wondering how difficult would a biology/psychology double major be?

Varies a lot by your school. Try looking at degree reqs (in the course catelog and/or the website), and maybe email an advisor. Biology/psychology probably isn’t too bad, since the two are somewhat related to each other.

At my school, Biology and Psychology really do not have many of the same requirements other than the general prerequisites the whole college has to do. Then again, it could be completely different at your school.

As far as the classes go, Psychology classes typically are not very hard, and Biology classes are moderately hard.

If you double major stick with something that has similar reqs. Other then that it will add about what 10 credit hours extra or so?

My fiance is doing clinical laboratory science, which is essentially a mix of biology and chem plus a few other specialized lab courses, and he is also doing psychology. There is NO overlap in the requirements, but the psych major at his school is pretty small so he only needs to take one extra year. If it were a bigger program (>30 credits) he would need to take MORE than five years to complete it. Whether or not it’s doable depends on your schools program and your willingness to be flexible regarding any potential extra semesters needed.

Psych isn’t generally a very hard major, but at some schools it can be reading intensive, and that becomes difficult if you are taking 20 credit hours per semester to cram both majors in.

I am going in with about 13 credit hours. But does this double major make sense for what I want to do?

I feel like psychology would be superfluous, but I don’t know much about your school’s program. You could always minor in psych.

For some reason there’s not a minor for psych. It’s just that I enjoy psychology a lot but it’s not really the career I want.

Sorry for hijacking your thread britt, but would you mind me PMing you about information on the UGA honors program? I’m really interested in partaking it it!
