Question About Math Level 2

How much should I know about conic sections (ellipses, hyperbolas..)? The Barrons book goes very into detail on them. I need an 800. Also, I'm scoring approximately 660 on Barrons practice tests (took 2 Barrons tests so far). Is Barrons really a lot harder than the real test?

Barron’s is far easier than the real test. I got 100% on Barron’s in 20 minutes but missed at least two on the real thing and required all the time given (and couldn’t check my work). However, conic sections aren’t that big on the real thing. Know the basics, and you might want to memorize all the stuff Barron’s has, just for insurance.

I cant say which is easier but I can tell you that I used Barrons for practice and was easy and the real test was super easy. So I guess Barrons is harder? Not sure since I thought both of them were straightforward

Bob, you’re the 1st person who has ever said Barrons is easier. Everyone I know/on here/other site says Barrons is much harder. I also looked at a real test and found it significantly easier. I hope you’re right about conic sections though.

actually, someone else on this site got consistent 800’s on barron’s and 790 on the real thing. I got an 800, but still thought the real exam was far harder.

Just know the standard forms of equations for circle, ellipse, parabola, and hyperbola. Also understand foci, major and minor axes, directrices, and asymptotes.

Barron’s is significantly more difficult than the actual SAT II Math II. You’re in the range for an 800 at this point. You can add approx. 100-150 points to your Barron’s scores to estimate your actual scores. Nonetheless, your score really depends on how you perform on test day.

If you have a TI-84 plus silver edition, there’s even a built in application that has all the conic equations on it.

I was worrying about this also, but when I took it there wasn’t really a question on conic sections at all. Even if there were, you’re still allowed to miss like 5 questions before it starts to count against you.

LOL wow, the barrons book is easier? Heck no. I took a practice test and i practically got 500-600s; I couldn’t even finish it! The real thing I got a lot higher on and finished on time.

I got 760 and 770 on Barron’s practice tests and 780 on the real one… so maybe Barron’s is slightly harder.

I thought Barron’s was much harder! I got 660-700 on Barron’s, and a 790 on the real thing.
