Question about MBA

Hi guys, I am a junior in high school. I know i want to get my master’s in business, but I’m just wondering what is the best thing I can major in undergrad? For example, I heard electrical engineering for bachelor’s is a pretty good choice for MBA

MBAs come from an extremely wide range of backgrounds. The best thing that you do is choose a major that you well suited for (meaning a subject you enjoy and are good at), get strong grades, and then go work for 2-3 years in a job that allows for some growth- then apply for your Master’s. Your work experience will matter more than your undergrad (says she who did history as an undergrad and got an MBA from a top school).

Engineering + MBA is a great combo (says she who used to teach in a joint engineering-business program), but it only makes sense if you want to do that sort of work. If you aren’t interested in electrical engineering it’s a pretty terrible choice for somebody who wants an MBA.

I’ve heard that of all engineering majors, industrial engineering aligns with MBA the most because of the many business classes that industrial engineers have to take. I would suggest looking into that field if you’re keen on pursuing an undergraduate MBA-related degree.

There isn’t really an undergraduate degree that will improve your candidacy for an mba program. I have had colleagues from undergraduate business, to engineering, to art production or military backgrounds successfully pursue top mba programs. The purpose of the GMAT is to test your ability to learn the concepts that will be taught in an MBA program which is why it doesn’t specifically test on business related topics.

When it comes to your application your candidacy will depend on (aside from test scores and undergraduate performance) your reason for applying, what you expect to get out of the program, and your ability to excel in that environment.
