So, this may be weird for someone asking this, maybe awkward and unseen, but is there a large gay crowd at McGill? I am curious because, well...i'm sure you have assumed correct..ANYWAYS, I am wondering b/c i heard montreal is a very welcoming city and such such. Thanks ^^

I'm hoping there is (and that I get in). I know McGill has Queer McGill and then there's The Village, which my Montrealer e-friend calls "Gay Town".

From what I gather Montreal is very dynamic and diverse;even on the Montreal tourism site they have a "Gay to Z" section. With the World Outgames and such this summer, it's very promising.

When I visited Montreal, we stayed at a B&B in the village. We gave the taxi guy the address and he's like "you're staying in the village? You do KNOW what kinds of people live there, right?" And we said "Yep!"

Of course, my brother (who is 6'4", a runner, and has really curly hair) was weirded out by the number of guys checking him out (he is also occasionally weirded out when girls check him out, so it's not entirely odd), but now he laughs about it.

I hope to visit MTL sometime in the spring. Maybe I'll book a B&B/hotel nearby. Mom will never know.....

You're not alone in wondering about the gay scene in Montreal :)
Though I've never visited, Canada in general is a pretty liberal country (more so than the US). Montreal is one of the big gay metropolises (=NY) and has some great gay neighborhoods.

Montreal has a very vibrant and active queer community, and is one of the most liberal atmospheres in North America.

McGill is no different, with several active queer-focused organizations, and queer-themed events throughout the year!

On their website, it says that they have a club called Queer McGill ;).

yay!! that makes me happy lol

queer mcgill is not a club, but a student service. All students pay a fee called "referal services network fee" which funds services like queer mcgill, union for gender empowerment, and queerline/nightline.
besides queer mcgill there are also smaller queer student associations within faculties, and also within the structure of the university.
