Question about Medical School Admissions

So,
Heres the gist of this, keep in mind I'm looking at little ahead.

So I am a CA resident and I will be attending Rutgers in NJ, when I apply for medical school (because I will have graduated in NJ) will I have a bad chance at medical schools in CA? also because I am currently a CA resident will I have a bad shot at medical schools on the east coast?
I am kind of confused if my situation puts me at a disadvantage with both states, one or none. I dont know if I conveyed my message very well.

Anyone have insight on this issue?

If you are a CA resident, then you’re advantaged for CA in-state public med school admissions. (Private med schools are a whole 'nother story since your residency status is more or less irrelevant.) The problem is CA has more med applicants than all other states so competition for admission is fierce and admission stats at most Cal med schools are quite high. Cal med schools shouldn’t hold the fact that you attended college OOS against you.

But you are not a NJ resident (even if you do graduate from Rutgers) and will not have the in-state advantage for applying to their in-state public med schools.

Thank you so much for your info!

Why are you going to Rutgers? What advantage is that?

Are you transferring to Rutgers? Why? Seems like a lot of unnecessary expense.

this sounds like a problem unless you’re going to do a glide year. If you’re in NJ and having to do interviews in Calif, it will require all cross-country trips.

I’m transferring because my cc’s biology teachers are very bad and the department is very underfunded. I also see college as a good time in life, I personally hate california and love the east coast. I want to go to med school in New York not in Cali. Yes it might be more expensive but you only have one life. Plus my parents are considering paying my student loan debt when my dads petro company kicks in gear. Cali is just a financial back up invade my parents cannot help me out. The only real advantage is I get more of a college life and a better education in my opinion.

Though I do agree there is a lot of unnecessary expenses. Don’t we all want to pay a little extra for the things we like? I want to reflect on my college debt payments with a smile because I actually enjoyed my time at school.
Regardless I’m bound to come up with some excuse to justify my decision even f I didn’t feel as strongly as I do.
