I got 27k per year in merit scholarships from tulane. Will I still get the 20k or so in need aid? or does the merit scholarship cancel out that demonstrated need? My family is very confused. Thank you

You need to ask Tulane about this.

In most cases merit aid will reduce your need before it is applied to your EFC. However each school will have their own way of handling it, so you need to ask your school.

Take Tulane’s published COA and subtract the scholarship. That will be your remaining “need” for need-based aid. This year, COA is about $56,500. 56500-27000=29,500.

Now take the remaining need and subtract your EFC ($29,500-EFC). This is the amount up to which Tulane “can” award you need based aid. If they don’t pledge to meet 100% of need, it is possible that you will not be awarded that much aid.

Hope that helps.
