I was wondering if the senior year 1st semester grades have any effect on your GPA that colleges see.

I'm somewhat confused as to what your question is asking. Your first semester senior grades are very important. Colleges don't want you to slack off senior year. Your GPA is recalculated on the midyear report as well. Also, the valedictorian is usually decided after first semester though the policy varies from school to school.

Thanks, I just wanted to know if GPA was recalculated, bc. someone at my school told me that midyear grades didn't factor in to the final uw gpa.

Another question, though- how big of an influence does the midyear report have on early action schools?

Most early action schools will make a decision before seeing your mid-year grades unless your school sends the reports out very early. Keep in mind though that offers of admission can be rescinded if your grades drop too much.
