If you got notification of early acceptance through an invite to MOSIAC, does that mean you are not going to be invited to scholarship weekend?

different events. you can be invited to both.

Thanks Obiwankenobi.

Is the scholarship weekend for people who applied and are accepted to the Vanderbilt scholarship programs? Does anybody know when we find out about those? (I applied for the Cornelius Vanderbilt scholarship).

Being invited to MOSAIC does not mean you got a scholarship. It only means that you will add diversity to the class and they want to recruit you.

I got invited to MOSAIC as well. What I don't really understand though is if you're supposed to go with your parents, or if you stay with another student.... does anybody know?

We match you up with students who have volunteered as hosts for the weekend. The event is for students only.

Vandy Rep - How are the invitie's selected? Does one have to apply for Mosaic or just to Vandy and they choose?

The Mosaic program has counterparts at most of Vandy's academic peers. Any underrepresented minority who applies for admission and meets diversity standards that the admissions department is aiming for can be invited. It's their way of letting you know early that you've been accepted and recruiting you before you find out all of your other options, same type of system most college athletics dept's use...Mathletics.

^Yeah, but then why do you think that some minorities eventually get in...but do not get an invite? I saw last year's posting and several people who did not have a Mosaic invite but were admitted when the regular decisions came out.
Plus, judging from the stats that everyone posted that got a Mosaic invite...I would say their they fall well within the range of normal acceptances. 3.8+ GPA and 1400+ SAT scores...I am sure that there minorities who get in that are a bit lower than the middle 50, but I do not think it's as big as a difference as recruited athletes..

We're not arguing about anything here. Obviously the difference isn't as big as recruited athletes, 75% of the time a recruited athlete to Vandy would not be capable/interested in applying here if it weren't for his sport (66% of the time statistics are made up on the spot). Whereas the only thing that differentiates AA superstars from the majority of the student body is that they are colorful; they're usually in the same academic realm (one would hope...).

...And, just as with athletic recruiting, you go after your favorites first. The students that receive invitations to Mosaic may not be the smartest of the minorities (although they are some of the smarter minorities), but are viewed as having a reasonable shot of bringing their minority status to Vanderbilt. Vandy isn't going to foot the bill for an Asian from Oregon to visit for Mosaic when he has a 36 SAT and will probably end up going to CalTech or wherever. He, will however, still get in here.

Agreed. Just knowing I'm in at vandy has hyped it up so much more for me. I can't imagine what it'll be like once I'm on campus.
