Hey folks,
Just want your input for grad school application, what is the most important criterion for engineering major? I heard that research experience is the most important for PhD, but does it carry the same weight for MS?
How about GPA, GRE and EC's?

Research is important for PhD, and is helpful but not required for MS, especially if you plan to do a non-thesis MS (not all schools offer this).

GPA should be competitive, as should be GRE. Recommendations are VERY important, so make sure you get them from professors that actually know you instead of just giving a generic recommendation. Your Statement of Purpose (SOP) also carries some weight.

I want to do MS actually but the thing is I am switching major (from biological sciences to computer science). I did have some research exp (1 is one year senior project and the other is from working) but all of them are not related to CS. My previous major has very little in common to what I am trying to study so I do not know what are my chances. I'm thinking of getting PhD after M.S because by then I would have known more about engineering.
