Hello! This is my first time posting and I have a lot of questions so please excuse any mistakes.
I’m going to be a junior next year, and I’m planning on taking AP Stat, AP English Language, and AP Comp Science. I am supposed to take pre calculus next year, but I’m replacing it with AP Stat. I’m also planning on self studying Calculus AB and just take the exam, and in my senior year take Calculus BC class. Is Calc AB hard? I would say I am average or a bit above average in math. And is pre calculus really necessary? And this is a pretty cliche question, but is AP Stat hard? I’m afraid that since I’m not taking pre calc, there might be materials I will be missing and I will have too much math to study. Thank you!!!
This is just a recipe for failure. You are average in math and you’re not taking pre-calc and self studying Calc AB? It’s called pre-calc for a reason. You might as well just take the $90+ that you’ve set aside for the AP exam and light a match to it, since either way, you’re just wasting your (parents’) money.
Go back to your original plan of taking pre-calc next year. If you have room in your schedule, take AP Stats concurrently.
“I would say I am average or a bit above average in math.” So you’re going to try to cover 2 math classes on your own during the busy and important junior year? Why do you think this is a good idea?
I think you are going to find yourself struggling taking two math classes, especially without having the knowledge from pre-calculus. Do what skieurope said and take Pre-Calculus with AP Stat- do not try to teach yourself Calculus AB, it will be incredibly difficult to handle.
no no no
Take Pre-Calc and then Calc AB
Take AP Stat if you want to.
I agree with everyone else on the thread, even though I have no experience with pre-calc yet, I’m taking it in the fall. I think it would be pretty bad to just skip pre-calc, that’s where you get the foundation for everything (According to my future pre-calc h teacher.) And then taking Calc BC? I think you should take Pre-Calc , then Calc AB, that’s the normal order. Self studying Calc AB without even having a foundation for Pre-Calc sounds almost impossible. Of course take everything I said with a grain of salt because I haven’t even taken pre-calc yet.
