When i'm older I want to do journalism and law. I also like being involved in my school. What I want to know is if my extra currics show that (either feebily, moderately, or strongly).

Writer for my city's newspaper [youth section]
School Newspaper
Student Government (class president)
Drama Debate and Forensics [debate]
Model UN
National Honor Society

Looking at joining yearbook and skiing for next year

I also want to add that I do these because I love doing them, not because I want to look good for harvard or any other college (which is a long time away for me anyway). I'm asking though because I'd like to know where I stand (curiousity mainly).

Any suggestions as to something I would like doing would be great

Have you won any national awards for debate, MUN, or newspaper?

no I'm actually only a freshman, I just come around the boards from time to time and figured I'd ask.

Yes, your extracurriculars reflect your interest in journalism and law. Unfortunately, many students are interested in these fields and have similar credentials. You might want to initiate something unique, related to your passions. Or you can make yourself stand out by obtaining national awards.

Some examples:
[ul]
[] Journalism awards (try Google)
[] Essay contests (e.g. Society of Professional Journalists Essay Contest)- www.fastweb.com
[] National Forensics League: try to get at least a state-level award
[] Model UN: win Best Delegate at a prestigious conference (e.g. Harvard, Brown, NAIMUN, or NMUN)
[li] Maintain your position as Class President[/li][/ul]

Skiing and yearbook are great, if you really enjoy them. However, to be honest, these will not help your college app significantly. Always remember to value quality over quantity when it comes to extracurriculars.
