Hi, I've been lurking these forums for a wile and finally decided to register!

I'm submitting my Common App now (the deadlines for all my schools is the 15th) and was wondering about the NACAC fee waivers... I received 4 of them from my guidance counselor (she signed, stamped them with the school's seal, etc.). When I go to the payment options for the common app, it only asks me if I'd like to 'request the waiver'. Do I just mail the ones I got from her to the individual schools or does she now have to submit them online or something like that? Also, although completely unrelated, I have a question about my recommendations. I received printed copies of my recommendations and the accompanying Common App forms from my counselor and teachers. Being a first time applicant, I'm new at this Common App thing and thought I could just make copies of what they game me and mail them out. Yesterday, my college counselor at school told me that my teachers and other counselor (who had written my recommendation) had to submit their recommendations online, so I put their emails in the Common App site and asked them to basically copy and paste what they had given me. My question is, do I have to wait for them to complete and submit the online forms before I submit my Common App?

Sorry for the extremely long first post and many questions, but I'm lost now... I came from PR to NY last year and, in PR, high schools complete and send out applications for you (and for free!) to the schools you're interested in and recommendations and essays aren't even needed; just your grades and SAT score.

You have to mail the ones you got from her to the individual schools to “request for fee waiver”. The forms you received technically are not fee waivers but rather fee waiver requests that ultimately still need to be approved by the admissions office.

If you have already physically mailed in photocopies of your guidance counselor and teachers’ recommendations and related forms, then you no longer need to invite them again on the common app so that they can submit their parts again online. Either online or on-paper is fine.

However, if you already invited them, then that’s fine too. The admission offices will simply have to process the same info twice. You do not have to wait for them to submit their part before submitting your part of the common application.

OK, thanks. I’ll mail the fee waivers to the colleges then. But I still have to select “Online NACAC Fee Waiver Request” in CommonApp, right? Or else that section appears as being incomplete… There’s also “Other Fee Waiver Request”, which I guess I could select since I’ll be mailing the NACAC request and not requesting it online. Also, the teachers didn’t mail in their recommendations, they just gave them and the accompanying forms back to me completed… When I was unsure of that I asked my college counselor, who then told me to ‘invite’ them to complete on CommonApp online. But like you said since I since invited them to complete it online it’ll be fine.
