I am a NM Finalist and put USC as my #1 school. I also got into USC, but the acceptance letter did not mention anything about the NMF Scholarship.
How does the NMF scholarship work? Will USC contact me further to tell me that I will get the half tuition scholarship? Or do I have to ask them myself?

Also, I've heard of USC offering full tuition to NMFs, is that just something USC chooses to do or do I have to do something to get the extra money?

Thanks in advance for the help!

bump this baby. I’d like to know as well!

Congratulations or your acceptances and National Merit status!

I have no first-hand experience with National Merit scholarship, but while we wait for someone who does to log on, I will pass on what I know:

USC will be informed by National Merit that you are a NMS, but that sometimes takes a while. It would not hurt in the meantime to FAX in a copy of whatever official confimation you have with your USC ID# on it to admissions. The scholarship appears on Oasis https://camel2.usc.edu/ESD/IOL/login.aspx under 'MY 2010-2011 AWARDS." The earliest it will show up would be mid-April, and it might be much later, so DO NOT start a status-frenzy-type obsession of looking for your NMS award! If you have followed the steps you will get the scholarship.

You may be thinking of the Trustee Scholarship. The Trustee Scholarship is not linked to the National Merit scholarship, though some of those invited to interview happen to be NMS. The invitations to interview for the Trustee Scholarship went out in January and the interviews were held in February.

Hopefully someone who has been through the National Merit process will pop in to confirm or correct what I have said.

bumping this!
anyone know more about this scholarship?

NMS at SC is half tuition. When you add that up over four years it is a substantial award. Also, there is $1000 per year by NMF in addition to the SC award.

If you filled out the financial aid form by the deadline and in SC’s opinion you qualify for additional funds, you will receive whatever amount is designated according to your determined need. NMS is merit based. Financial aid is need based.

Did you apply for any local scholarships in your own state?

Superawesomegrl: You were accepted at USC and you are a NMF - Congratulations!
Best wishes in your future at USC!
