Question about National Merit Scholarships?

Hey everyone.
It's my understanding that Chicago gives out small scholarships to national merit finalists. However, I didn't initially put Chicago as my first choice school, thinking I might not be accepted. If I change my first choice school to Chicago now, would it still be too late to get any money? Or am I just confused about how this works?
Any help is appreciated!

No it’s not too late. The deadline is the middle of may.

Just make sure that you aren’t going to get another offer from another school. You can only get one national merit scholarship offer… That’s the only danger. I would contact national merit to make sure you can change your first choice school and stop any offers that may be in the works. As long as an offer hasn’t been mailed from another school, you’re fine. Even if it has, I bet you could talk to Chicago and work it out.

I stressed over this last month, but I caught it in time. Chicago is now my first choice school, and I’ll only be getting an offer from them. :)

Thanks guys. While Chicago isn’t necessarily my top choice, it’s the highest school on my list that gives any money, so it’s all good.
I faxed in the change today. Thanks again!

You’ve got until April 28th–that’s when National Merit starts sending out the lists of names. So you should be fine.

(If you waited for too long after that, you might actually get an offer from the other school, which would make you ineligible for any other NMF college scholarship. Because the NM people are silly.)

ETA: crossed wires, ha. I see I have been rendered useless :>
